Duel of the Fates - John Williams (From Star Wars Episode I)

  • Written by John Williams, who also wrote the Star Wars theme.
  • Recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra.
  • Used as the theme for the final lightsaber duel between Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Maul.
  • The lyrics are a Sanskrit translation of the Welsh poem Cad Goddeu (Battle of the Trees).

Khara = dreadful Matha = head 
Rath = speak Amah = give 
Yuddha = battle Syada = raging 
Dai = purify Ya = going 
Ki = like La = taking 
Dan = separate Niha = loss 

John Williams used one line from Robert Graves' translation of the Celtic Poem "Cad Goddeu" ("The Battle of the Trees"): 
'Under the tongue root a fight most dread, and another raging, behind, in the head.'
